The Alpine Lady Bucks varsity basketball team faced a tough challenge recently as they fell to a dominant Klondike squad 51-88 in Wink. The loss brings Alpine’s record to 7-3, but despite the tough result, the Lady Bucks’ performance had bright spots.

The Alpine Bucks varsity boys’ basketball team faced off against the Fort Stockton Panthers in the much-anticipated Highway 67 Shootout. In front of a packed house filled with passionate fans from both sides, the Bucks battled hard but ultimately fell short, losing 77-63, dropping to 2-3 on the season.

The Alpine Lady Bucks surged back into the win column with a commanding 51-32 victory over the Van Horn Eagles on Monday night, December 3. Sophomore Colette Fowlkes led the team with 12 points and eight rebounds, while freshman Gyllian Morrissey contributed 10 points and seven rebounds.

The Alpine Fightin’ Bucks Varsity boys basketball team demonstrated dominance and resilience during a busy early-season play week. The Bucks kicked off the week with a commanding road victory over Van Horn on Tuesday, December 3, before facing a tougher challenge against San Elizario on Friday, December 6. On Tuesday, Alpine rolled into Van Horn for their first away game of the season and delivered an impressive 68-24 win.

Barry Derickson, Sul Ross State University’s head football coach, resigned this week. Derickson joined the Lobo football staff in August 2021 as their Offensive Coordinator and was promoted to head coach in December of the same year.

The Alpine Fightin’ Bucks football team has demonstrated outstanding athleticism on the field this season and has also excelled academically. A total of 22 players earned Academic All-District honors, showcasing the team’s commitment to excellence both in the classroom and on the gridiron.
