I’m confused. I got the flu a few months ago, the worst flu I’d ever had.

MICHELLE RINEHART Superintendent, Alpine ISD One of the hallmarks of effective leadership is being able to jointly attend to the present and the future. While we celebrate a strong, energizing start to the 2022-23 school year here in Alpine ISD, we are also looking ahead to future challenges.

Hunting season is almost here, and working on the upcoming guide for 2022 reminded me of some great hunting stories.

On Feb. 24 I attended a tour of the UTEP Aerospace Center and the W.M. Keck Center for 3D Innovation, along with other regional mayors of the Rio Grande Council of Governments, as part of a proposal on economic development for our area. The tour was educational, and an eye opener of how UTEP has given back to the community.

At the Cattle Raisers Convention and Expo this March, I will conclude my term as president of Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association. This is an ideal opportunity to reflect upon our recent struggles and successes. It’s also a great time to think about what lies ahead for cattle producers.

Cheers to a great rodeo team Thank you for the coverage of the Sul Ross rodeo team in your March 3 issue. The fact that we have such a fine, winning rodeo team should be a matter of pride for not only Sul Ross State University, but also for those of us in Brewster County and the entire Big Bend.
