Brewster County Commissioners Court held its regularly scheduled meeting on Sept. 27, and the court approved the permitting process for the upcoming Terlingua international chili cookoffs. On Sept. 24 a joint operation between Brewster County deputies and U.S. Border Patrol agents resulted in the apprehension of five illegal aliens from Mexico, and the arrest of Emanuel Hosea Hafford. Hafford was discovered to be smuggling the suspects on U.S. Highway 385 south of Marathon.
