Be the best you that you can be

“Opportunity knocking usually sounds like hard work, so most people don’t answer the door.” – I heard it from friend and mentor Jim Chionsini as one of his “Old Italian Sayings.” He likely borrowed it, but he was, among other things, a master at repackaging good advice. An imaginary light from above formed a halo around the camera in the display case.

LETTER TO THE EDITOR

Body
Michael’s Mountain Ministry of Alpine would like to extend a very hearty THANK YOU to all of the many people who helped make the 2022 Live Nativity a wonderful success. To those of you who saw me running errands and gave me donations, to the people who helped me fill out forms, to all the ladies who made the delicious cookies, the donations of hot chocolate and coffee, the hours of setting up and taking down all the equipment, stuffing hay in the stable, to all the production volunteers as well as those who supplied the animals and the many prayers for the event made this annual Christmas tradition possible!

City to create strategic plan, citizen input needed As a governing body, the City of Alpine’s mission is “to provide quality service to the citizens of Alpine.” Quality can mean different things to different people, though, resulting in a less-than-direct approach to the many services and functions that encompass city government daily, from billing to street paving to providing parks for our citizens. This is why the city will be creating and implementing a strategic plan.

Time to rein in government agencies with political agendas

By now, many of you have heard about the Securities and Exchange Commission’s plan to require publicly traded companies to disclose their greenhouse gas emissions. The proposed rule, issued earlier this year, requires these companies to disclose not only direct and energy-related emissions, but also those of every downstream supplier, known as Scope 3 Emissions.

Tough love

Body
When one thinks of effective leadership, the word “love” rarely comes to mind. It’s hard to believe that it has been almost 10 years since I was submitting pieces to various news outlets related to why I felt I would be a good candidate for Brewster County Judge. My basic premise was that while I did not have the experience being involved with local government, I was very well versed at relationship building.

City talk, it’s the talk of the town

Body
There is no better time than now to be an Alpine Resident. Our city is on the cusp of some positive changes. More residents than ever are voicing their concerns, opinions, ideas, and solutions to the challenges ahead of us. City officials and the City Council are encouraging increased input from residents, and are adding additional layers of transparency to those that have been established for some time now.
CATHERINE EAVES Mayor, City of Alpine
