The Alpine ISD Board of Trustees held their regular meeting last Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. in the AISD Administration Building. Of importance on the agenda were updates from Parkhill and Imperial on the ongoing construction at Alpine High School.

The Brewster County Commissioner’s Court held their regularly scheduled meeting Feb. 14 in council chambers, Commissioner Sara Colando, Pct. 2 and Commissioner William ‘Mo’ Morrow, Pct. 4 were absent. Of note on the agenda was an ask by the 83rd District Attorney’s office and an abundance of road work done by the Road and Bridge department.

The candidates running in the May 6 election for Alpine city council and the Alpine ISD school board have been announced. Candidates vying for city council positions include City Council Member Ward 1, Judy Stokes-unopposed, City Council Member Ward 3, Darin Nance-unopposed, and City Council Member Ward 5, Jerry Johnson who is the incumbent against challenger Rick Stephens.

In most instances, a lemony pasta dish works better in the spring or summer, but this creamy linguine with lemon and chicken is hearty enough to satisfy any time of the year. It is also a decadent and sexy dish and resembles something one might find in a fine dining establishment.

Sul Ross State University will hold its’ Hall of Honor inductee ceremony on Saturday, March 25. Three local boosters, graduates, and distinguished alumni are to be honored.

There is a story in the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, and Luke that tell a time on a mountain when Jesus is seen, at least for a moment, as his most real self: both as human & also as God with us & for us, then & now & forever. For disciples, Peter, James and John, this was a preview of Christ’s glory.

In what activities did you participate in high school? I participated in band, one act, and tennis! Who was your favorite teacher/coach, and why? My favorite mentors have always been the ones who stuck with me for more than a year. Ms.

Alpine High School band members recently competed in the UIL Solo and Ensemble contest held at Odessa College. Pictured is the AHS Clarinet Quartet consisting of Madison Mendoza, Allison Sanchez, Jaylynn Celaya, and Meghan Struthers, who are advancing to state competition.

On Saturday, Feb. 18 at approximately 1:15 PM, Big Bend National Park’s Communications Center received a call requesting emergency assistance on the Pinnacles Trail. A 56-year-old male was experiencing chest pains. Friends hiking with the visitor immediately began CPR and continued with the help of bystanders and park volunteers until rangers arrived on scene with an AED. Unfortunately, all attempts to revive the visitor were unsuccessful.
