Women’s basketball coach receives award

E.J. Smith, head coach of the Lobo women’s basketball team was presented with the Academic Excellence in Coaching Award for 2022-2023 on November 29. The award was established to recognize coaches who make an outstanding effort to support the academic success of studentathletes. Nominations for this award come from students, faculty, the student government, and the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. The decision was finalized at the Sul Ross Faculty Assembly.

Fightin’ Bucks return home from tournament

The Alpine Fightin’ Bucks played several teams during the Denver City tournament. The Bucks narrowly lost a few of the games, with a 49-43 fall to Levelland, followed by a 68-60 win against Liberty, before another close loss to Slaton.

Lady Bucks enter district play

On December 7, the Lady Bucks entered the Denver City tournament, playing the Denver City Mustangs first, losing 6525. In this game against the Mustangs, the Lady Bucks fought hard but didn’t withstand the attacks of the opposing team.

The Lady Bucks played their first home game against the Van Horn Eagles last Tuesday. In the non-district game, the Lady Bucks came out on top 57-29.

Lady Lobos clinch conference opener

In a battle to the end, the Sul Ross Lady Lobos eeked out a win against the University of the Ozarks Eagles in last Thursday’s conference match-up at the Pete P. Gallego Center. The Lady Lobos defeated the Eagles 82-73.

Bucks beat Van Horn before Denver City shootout

The Fightin’ Bucks basketball team played Van Horn in a non-district home game, winning 72-34. On November 28, traveling to the Denver City Tournament, they competed against the Levelland Lobos, losing by a score of 43-49. On Saturday, the Fightin’ Bucks played the Liberty Patriots and won 68-60 in the tournament followed by a close loss of 76-77 against the Slaton Tigers later that day.

Fightin’ Bucks win first three games

The Alpine Fightin’ Bucks basketball team has started off strong so far this season, having played and won a game against Marfa on November 14, as well as the game against Monahans on November 20. “Both the Marfa and Monahans games were good for us.

Lady Bucks Basketball fall to Marathon in overtime

Body
The Alpine Lady Bucks played a close game last Tuesday against the Marathon Mustangs in a nondistrict home game. Each team gained considerable ground in each quarter, with the Mustangs leading the first two, the teams tying for the third, and Alpine leading the fourth. The game had to go into overtime, with the Marathon team ultimately taking the win 46-50.
