Alpine ISD Athletic Director and Head Football Coach Andy Smith shared Tuesday that he has been named Athletic Director and HFC in another Texas school district, to be announced later this week. Coach Smith has led the Fightin’ Bucks Athletics Program for the past two years.

The Alpine Lady Bucks varsity basketball team is hitting its stride in district play. This past week, they secured two significant victories to solidify their position as a top contender in District 4-3A.

The Alpine Bucks boys’ varsity basketball team made its mark this week with two decisive wins in district competition, displaying its offensive power at the basket. These victories highlight the Bucks’ recent resurgence and position them as a formidable contender in District 4-3A following last week’s tough loss against Presidio.

Senior Cheyanne Bonilla had a double-double as the Sul Ross State University women’s basketball team (1-9 Lone Star Conference, 2-11) lost 98-78 to Eastern New Mexico (7-3 LSC, 12-4) on Thursday evening at Steve Loy Family Foundation Arena.

The Alpine Lady Bucks softball team is coming off a successful 2023-2024 season. They finished with a 9-1 district record and a 21-17 overall mark, securing the district title. Heading into his third year at the helm, Coach Chris Virdell is eager to continue the program’s legacy of excellence.

The Alpine Fightin’ Bucks basketball team closed out non-district play this season with a hardfought second half on the road over the Buena Vista Longhorns, setting the stage for a thrilling start to their district campaign against the Tornillo Coyotes and a hard-fought game against a formidable Presidio team.
