Lady Bucks shine at Buck Stadium

The track and field championship season opened on a hot, sunny day with the District 4-3A HS meet on April 7 at Buck Stadium. The last of four meets, hosted by Alpine this year, ended with the Alpine Track and Field team winning the championship in all four high school divisions.

Alpine native Elena Cano sets personal record

Body
The University of Alaska Anchorage track and field team set three meet records and two school records at the recent Mike Fanelli Track Classic. Alpine High School graduate Elena Cano finished second in the 100 hurdles in a school re cord time of 14.15, and was second in the 400 hurdles in a personalbest time of 1:00.16.

Boys track wins district

Body
The district meet came down to a dual battle between Alpine and Presidio. Alpine came out of the field events with 84 points. Highlights included a first and second place finish by high jumpers Jake Crump and Andrew Rodriguez. The Bucks swept the top three places in the pole vault with Aiden Garcia, Evren Martinez, and Jace Canaba. Tray Ervin and Rudy Cunningham won the shot and discus, respectively.

Vaughn named pitcher of week

Body
Jodie Vaughn’s outstanding week on the mound earned her American Southwest Conference Pitcher of the Week. This is the third ASC Pitcher of the Week recognition in her softball career at Sul Ross.

What are you especially looking forward to in your senior year? I especially look forward to playing baseball and graduating this year. What activities are you involved in during your senior year? I was involved in baseball and football, National Honor Society, and I took dual credit courses.

Adult baseball tryouts for A’s

Body
The Alpine A’s, an adult baseball team, is seeking experienced players who are at least 28 years old for the new season that starts in late April and runs into August. Home games are held at Historic Kokernot Stadium in Alpine, and will be played at 11 a.m.
