Adult baseball tryouts for A’s

The Alpine A’s, an adult baseball team, is seeking experienced players who are at least 28 years old for the new season that starts in late April and runs into August. Home games are held at Historic Kokernot Stadium in Alpine, and will be played at 11 a.m.

Sims named ASC Tri-Hitter of the Week

Sul Ross State University softball’s Payslee Sims was named American Southwest Conference Tri-Hitter of the Week after a sweep of Howard Payne. “Payslee has been hitting the ball well all season,” said head Coach Troy Canaba.

Bucks squeak by Presidio

On April 4 at Kokernot Field, the Alpine Fightin’ Buck baseball team scratched out a win 5-4 in seven innings over the visiting Presidio Blue Devils. The win keeps the Bucks undefeated in district play, and moves them to 5-7 on the season

At a recent district tennis meet in Fort Stockton, Derek Schwierjohn placed third in boys singles; third in mixed doubles was Jaylynn Celaya and Omar Villa; second place girls singles was Madison Mendoza; and second place girls doubles was Kylie and Adayna Garcia.

Sul Ross rodeo still looking strong

Sul Ross rodeo had a quick turnaround competing at events in back-to-back weekends. They traveled to Sweetwater for the Ranger College event, and the following weekend made the trek to Snyder for Western Texas College’s rodeo.

Teeing off for the Bucks

It was a great day for golf as 18 teams from Alpine, Marfa, Fort Davis, and Van Horn teed off at the 2022 Alpine High School Project Graduation fundraiser golf tournament held at the Alpine Country Club on March 26. It was a huge success, and netted bragging rights to the winners in the Championship Flight and President’s Flight.
