Football at Alpine High sees some new faces

Football two-a-days have come and gone, and the Alpine Fightin’ Bucks are ready to begin their season. Starting quarterback Trey Ervin feels confident that his team will rally around him to get the job done. He is excited for the upcoming season with many experienced players coming back onto the field, although it is bittersweet since this is his senior year.

Alpine finished the regular season in second place out of eight teams in the Mountain Division with a 32-17 win/loss record. The Garden City Wind (36-10) finished as the Mountain regular season champion with the Trinidad Triggers (25-18) and the Roswell Invaders (27-22) taking third and fourth, respectively.

Cowboys drop crucial series in Garden City

With first place in the Pecos League Mountain Division hanging in the balance, the Alpine o6 Cowboys traveled to Garden City, Kan., to take on the top-seeded Wind ball club for the second time this summer. Alpine arrived at Clint Lightner Field needing to win all five games of the series to take over the top spot. The Cowboys were also out for revenge, as their previous visit to Garden City for Opening Day resulted in a four-game sweep.

Team Texas takes charge

For the seventh consecutive time, Team Texas took charge in the Reined Cow Horse competition in Gillette, Wyo., last week. Emily Kent was the Reserve Champion, and Marathon senior Emilee Charlesworth (on the right) and Madeline Horton tied for fourth and fifth. Cowboys take series from Santa Fe

The Alpine o6 Cowboys continued their march to the Pecos League playoffs by winning three of four at Kokernot Field against the Santa Fe Fuego, followed by splitting two games at Fort Marcy Ballpark in New Mexico.
