On Oct. 5, Ely Gallego was officially named head baseball coach at Sul Ross State University. Gallego spent the previous four seasons as a fulltime assistant under former head coach Bobby Mesker, who is now the head baseball coach at Midland Christian after 14 years at the helm of the Lobos.

As the seasons start to change, the Alpine Lady Bucks look to wrap up District, and advance to the playoffs in a couple of weeks. Currently Alpine is sitting 19-10 overall, and undefeated in District. The team is in the second round of District play, facing those opponents once again.

FOOTBALL Oct. 28: Tornillo @ Tornillo Varsity 7:30 p.m.

At the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association Clarendon Stampede last weekend, Sul Ross State University’s Tristen Hutchings was the steer wrestling champion with 7.4 seconds on two runs to win the average title. Will Eddleman and Dylan Hancock won the team roping header.

The Fightin’ Bucks traveled on Oct. 7 to face off their District rival the Crane Golden Cranes. This game was anticipated as one that would have helped the Bucks start the second round of their District games in first place.

District play resumed on Oct. 11 in Tornillo after a non-District match against Sonora on Saturday.

Alpine Cross Country hosted 500 runners from 25 teams this past Saturday at the annual Big Bend Mountain Ramble at Kokernot Park. Alpine medalists include: Hatfield Cason 1st- varsity boys, the varsity boys team placed 3rd overall. Hope Dominguez 18thvarsity girls. Alan Navarrete 13th- JV boys, Raul Renteria-19th- JV boys. Colette Price-Fowlkes 8th- MS girls, Andynne Ramirez 19th- MS girls, Zane Perkins 17th MS boys. AXC would like to thank everyone who helped to make Saturday a great race day.
