“Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid …” John 14:1 John “Jay” William Ward, age 90, of Fort Davis, passed away on Sunday April 2 in Alpine. John was born on 21 May 1932 to John Irby and Cora Ellie (Cole) Ward in Gainesville. He was the fifth child–the first son–of eight children. Jay moved with his parents and siblings to Denver City in 1946 where he attended school and earned his high school diploma– Class of 1952–from Denver City High School via correspondence after being drafted into the US Army for service during the Korean Conflict.

A burial followed at Dawson County Cemetery. Viewing was Wednesday, March 29, and Thursday, March 30, at Branon Funeral Home Chapel.

Richard Bruhn Keith, 66, of Alpine passed away at his home surrounded by loved ones on March 25. Rick was born in Pasadena on July 3, 1956, to Sarah Charter Bruhn and Stan Bruhn and was raised by Sarah and Duane Phillips. Rick served in the Army in the late 70’s and was stationed in Germany. After graduating with a Masters in German Studies from the University of Texas, Rick moved to Alpine where he worked for the Center for Big Bend Studies at Sul Ross State University.

Albert Hartnett Rojo, Jr, “Conky”, entered eternal rest on Feb. 8, at the age of 71, at home in San Jose, CA. Albert was born on April 26, 1951, in Ysleta, TX, and raised in Alpine. He graduated Alpine High School in the class of 1970. Albert was a Buck athlete, played multiple sports, and was quarterback for the Buck football team.
