Pitcher’s duel win over Presidio puts Alpine in district driver’s seat

Hannah Juett and Valerie Armendariz once again went head-to-head in a battle for District 4-3A supremacy on April 4 as the Alpine Lady Bucks visited Presidio to start the second half of the district schedule. But unlike the snowy encounter in Alpine March 17, Juett and the Lady Bucks answered the call on the border and brought a 5-1-win home to Alpine.

Baca takes district boys’ golf title

Alpine competes against four schools in the district for golf; Odessa Compass, Kermit, Crane and Stanton. District tournaments took place these last two weeks in Monahans and Fort Stockton, with district play concluding in Fort Stockton on April 5.

Bucks crush the Yellowjackets

This past Friday, the Alpine Fightin’Bucks varsity baseball would see some relief after early struggles in their district match ups. The Bucks took on the Kermit Yellowjackets at the Jackets home field that saw the home team fall behind early.

Lady Bucks continue to dominate district play

Jaycee Portillo hit two doubles, a single and a triple as the Alpine Lady Bucks continued to dominate district play with a 13-3 win over Stanton last Tuesday at Sul Ross, following that up with a 17-2 win at Kermit on Friday afternoon.

Bucks’ 0-2 in district play

The Alpine Bucks hosted the Crane Golden Cranes last Tuesday night, opening district play at home. Despite an early lead on the night, the Bucks would fall 4-2 to the Cranes after upsetting the 4-A Monahans Loboes the previous Wednesday with a score of 12-5.

Lady Bucks crush Crane, Tornillo

Alpine head softball coach Chris Virdell lamented his team’s lack of hitting during a 3-game losing streak that included back-to-back losses to Pecos and Odessa by a combined score of 21-1 and a snowy 6-3 district-opening setback to Presidio. But the Lady Bucks broke out of their funk in a big way March 21 with a 16-1 win over the Crane Lady Birds at Sul Ross State University and followed that up with a 23-1 win at Tornillo last Friday.
