On Feb. 26, Marathon hosted a full day of Little Dribblers basketball games to a packed house at the Marathon High School gym. In the photo, Alpine’s Heat Wave, a fifth-sixth grade girls basketball team, dribbles to victory against Marfa’s Ice Angels. The Marathon PTO sold treats and snacks, with proceeds benefitting Marathon schools.

Sully rodeo team ready to ride

Head Coach CJ Aragon is excited about his rodeo team this season. And he should be after the men won this last weekend’s rodeo in Odessa and return last year’s CNFR bull riding champion, Tristan Hutchings. The win was back at Aragon’s old stomping grounds in Odessa as he came from Odessa College four years ago to lead Sul Ross.

Bucks fall to Bushland in playoffs

The Alpine Fightin’ Buck boys basketball team lost to a hot Bushland Falcons on Feb. 25, 73-37. Both Aiden Morrissey and Jayden Canaba finished their high school careers with 10 points each. The hothanded Falcons hit 10 three pointers, and will face a daunting task with 28-1 Shallowater Mustangs in the next round. Star lefty guard Cole Purcell led the Falcons with 20 points. Alpine closes with a 19-8 record, and Bushland moves to 15-9 with the second state ranked Shallowater up next for them.

Softball registration still open

Body
Registration is open until March 14 for Big Bend Amateur Softball Association, a non profit charitable organization that organizes youth softball programs for girls in Brewster County and the surrounding area. BBA-SA is a member of the National Amateur Softball Association, and follows national rules and guidelines.
