Lucila “Lucy”Garcia The Lord is my Shepherd, there is nothing I want Lucila Lujan Garcia, lovingly known as Lucy, entered her eternal home on August 4. Born August 31, 1939, right here in Marfa to Dora and Andres Lujan, the youngest of seven children, survived by her sister, Mageli Venegas, Lucy leaves behind a lasting mark on her native town.

It is with heartbreak and sadness that we announce that Monica Lee Pannell Bowden Burkholder died peacefully on August 1 in Cibolo. Monica was born February 12, 1969, at Big Bend Memorial Hospital in Alpine to Dr. Bob Pannell and Dr. Mary Sue Kimmey Pannell. She is preceded in death by her mother, Sue, and is survived by her father, Bob of Boerne; husband Steve Burkholder, sister Angie Pannell Mullins (Jerry); all of San Antonio; daughters Taylor Bowden-Gray (Austin) of Knoxville, TN, Sarah Bowden of Shertz and Shannon Bowden of Seguin; and her niece Katie and nephew Scot of San Antonio. She also leaves behind her best lifelong friends Christine, Denise, Heather, Jamie, and Marcy, all from Alpine.

Paul Loeffler passed away on July 3 in Alpine. Paul was born to Victor and Cayloma Loeffler in Kerrville on September 13, 1956. Paul grew up in Junction learning many life lessons working in the family business, Loeffler Motor Company, and on the Loeffler Ranch. Upon graduation from Junction High School, Paul followed a family tradition and attended Texas A&M University. Paul married Evelyn “Ebby” Loeffler in Sierra Blanca on June 24, 1978. On a vacation, Paul and Ebby went to Alpine to visit Ebby’s brothers who were attending Sul Ross State University. He fell in love with Alpine and told Ebby that if a job ever came open there, he would take it! In 1982, he began working with the Texas General Land Office Field Headquarters. He enjoyed his career because he got to combine his two favorite activities: looking at rangeland and talking to people. After retirement, he opened his own land management and real estate appraisal company, Superior Land Services.
