Bucks’ football season ends in Bi-District, build hope for next year

The Alpine Fightin’ Bucks varsity football team closed out their 2025-2026 season on Friday, November 14, with a tough 75–20 loss to the Coahoma Bulldogs in the Bi-District round of the playoffs. While the final margin was lopsided—one that gave the teams Fridaynight, televised news coverage— the season offered important lessons and flashes of potential for this underdog squad.

Bucks blast MTLCA in opener

The Alpine High School boys varsity basketball team opened its 2025-26 campaign with a statement win on Monday, November 17, dismantling Midland Texas Leadership Charter Academy 28-86 in a nondistrict matchup on their home floor. From the opening tip, the Fightin’ Bucks looked every bit like a team ready to run, gun, and defend at full throttle.

County hears overdue audit findings

The Brewster County Commissioners met last Tuesday for their regular meeting, with the primary focus centered on the financial audits performed by local accounting firm Singleton and Clark, CPA. Preston Singleton presented the audit findings from his firm’s work that began in October of last year for fiscal year 2024, and also gave the court an overview of the previous two years’ audits.

City approves new police chief

The Alpine City Council held its second budget workshop on Tuesday before its regular meeting, focusing on the purchase of the Animal Services incinerator, which Brewster County would partially fund, and updates to the utilities fee schedule.
