The Alpine City Council held its regularly scheduled meeting last Tuesday, July 16 at 5:30 p.m. in the council chambers.

Six months ago, the torch for the Brewster County Emergency Management (EMC) position exchanged hands. James Etchison, who was also recently named as the Alpine Volunteer Fire Department Chief took over the reins of the position from Stephanie Elmore. The Avalanche recently spoke with Etchison about his new positions, and what makes him confident in his new roles.

What was once the cornerstone of the downtown Alpine business district now sits in charred ruins. The majority of the 100 block of West Holland Avenue, lost to the devastating fire on May 26 sits in question to its future.

The Alpine Fightin’ Bucks varsity football team will take on the Anthony Wildcats in the first district game of the season at Sul Ross’ Jackson Field. The game will take place on Friday, September 27 at 7 p.m.
