The Alpine Emergency Services Board met last Thursday, August 22, at 5:30 p.m. in the meeting room of the Alpine Volunteer Fire Department (AVFD). All current board members were present, and Brewster County Judge Greg Henington and two members of the AVFD, Colby Nunn and Alex Montemayor, were also in attendance.

The Alpine High School Fightin’ Bucks football teams (freshmen/ junior varsity/ varsity) went to Pecos Thursday, August 22, for the second and final pre-season scrimmage, showing that their cohesive play and explosive offense are as good on the road as they are at home.

The Alpine Independent School District Board of Trustees held its regular meeting last Wednesday, August 21 at 5:30 p.m. Single Member District 6 Dr.

Samuel Andrew Morgan Powell, “Drew”, 61, beloved husband, father, and brother, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 14. He was born in Alexandria, Virginia, on January 9, 1963. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, August 31 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Holy Spirit Episcopal Church, 301 Hays Country Acres Rd, Dripping Springs; telephone: (512) 8584924. A private graveside service and interment will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to the Texas Peace Officers Memorial, c/o Texas State Preservation Board, P.O. Box 13286, Austin, Texas 78711.

Glenn Richard Standly passed away on August 3. He was born in Bynum to Charlie Lloyd and Flora Mackey Standly on January 17, 1944. Glenn was a 1962 graduate of Hillsboro High School before matriculating at then Abilene Christian College where he met and married the love of his life, Cheryl “Charlie” Keetch. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from ACC and later enhanced his education with a Master’s degree from Texas Tech University in Lubbock.

With gratitude in their hearts for her precious time on Earth, the family of Lope Lines announces her passing on August 20. Lope was born in Eagle Pass on October 3, 1927, to Peter and Anna Camarinos, who had immigrated from Greece.
