Last week, our parish celebrated the feast of Transfi guration — a key moment in our Lord’s public ministry. St. Luke records that the Transfiguration occurs eight days after Peter’s declaration that Jesus was the Christ, the Son of the Living God, contrasting the belief that Jesus was merely Elijah or another prophet. Peter also famously rebuked Jesus when He spoke of His death and resurrection in Jerusalem. Thus, the Gospel for this feast follows the dual declaration of Jesus as the Son of God and His path to crucifixion and resurrection.
