This year’s July 4 activities will be held on the grounds of the Brewster County courthouse. This celebration has not been held here since 1976 and will kick off with the parade line-up beginning at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 4.

The Friends of the Post in Marathon have announced their Independence Day celebration. Festivities will begin Saturday, July 6 at 10 a.m.

According to a press release issued by Captain Felipe Fierro of the Alpine Police Department, this past Sunday morning, June 16, Alpine Police officers were dispatched to Big Bend Regional Medical Center regarding a 21-year-old male who suffered multiple stab wounds. After speaking to the victim, Elijah Gongora of Medina and a student at Sul Ross, it was discovered that the incident occurred in the 2000 block of Peach Tree Circle. Officers identified the suspect as a 16-year-old male juvenile who is awaiting proceedings at this time. The male victim was airlifted to an El Paso hospital where he was being treated and expected to be released. This investigation is ongoing and no further information is available at this time.

Abigail Portillo “Abby” Muñoz, 59, a loving spouse, devoted mother, and cherished grandmother sadly passed away on Wednesday, June 12 after a courageous battle with ovarian cancer. A Rosary and visitation for Abigail will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., with the Rosary at 7 p.m.

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved Joe Kenneth “Kenny” Losoya, who departed this world on June 9 at the age of 56. Kenny was born on May 5, 1968, in Alpine to Joe and Tina Losoya.
