Marathon ISD student speaks at Smithsonian

Marathon’s soon to be eighth grader Keller Barlow set about the task of competing in the Regional History Fair at Sul Ross with boundless enthusiasm, never realizing where it all would end. According to Marathon ISD superintendent Dr. Ivonne Durant, “Keller’s passion for his subject was obvious to the other contestants from Marathon,” as they gathered in their library to give one another feedback.

All-Star baseball game features Alpine alum

This year’s 46th Annual Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association All-Star game is set for this coming Saturday, June 15 in Round Rock. The game will be played at Dell Diamond, home of the Round Rock Express, an affiliate of the Texas Rangers.

Cowboys ride high, face first loss in emotional week

The Alpine Cowboys, a powerhouse in the Pecos League, maintained their impressive winning streak, racking up victories against the Austin Weirdos and Roswell Invaders before experiencing their first taste of defeat in a hardfought series against the Garden City Wind. The week was a rollercoaster of emotions, marked by both triumphant victories and a heartbreaking loss, all while honoring the memory of a fallen teammate.

Cason honored as Coach of the Year

Early mornings, trips to Europe, late nights, and many hours on the road are just a few of the things Alpine High School cross country and head girl’s track and field coach has been up to in the past year. Cason also teaches history at AHS and her trip to Europe in the summer of 2023 along with fellow teacher Mrs. Parson, was one way she was able to bring personal, real-life experience to her students in the classroom.

Former Alpine Buck wins 3A baseball State Championship

Ben Gallego, son of B.J. and Linda Gallego and a 1994 graduate of Alpine High School coached in the Class 3A baseball State Championship on June 8 in Round Rock. Gallego, an assistant coach for the Franklin Lions, helped lead the team to a 35-5 record, and their first-ever state baseball championship. The Lions defeated Gunter 5-4 in the semi-finals and Brock 7-4 in the final.

Thank You I would like to express thanks to new Alpine Councilman, Reagan Stone, for jumping into the job to try to make our community better. His article in the newspaper regarding the loss of life in Texas resulting from gun violence and his attempt to introduce a background check for gun shows here demonstrates his willingness to work to keep our community safe.
