It was a lucky day for Bel Dominguez of Marfa as she emerges as the happy winner of the Epic Energy Studio St. Patrick’s Day fundraiser raffle held at the dance studio in Alpine on March 15. The grand prize included a wheel barrel full of beverages, lottery tickets, snacks, drinks, and more, with proceeds going to cover costs of equipment for the Epic girls youth cheerleading gym, as well as for travel costs to Round Rock and a competition at Kalahari Resorts. On March 27 a Brewster County deputy observed a Chevrolet Tahoe traveling northbound pull into the southbound lane to circumvent the U.S. Highway 385 Border Patrol checkpoint. The deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the vehicle fled north for several miles before coming to a stop.
