Coach CJ Aragon’s men and women rodeo teams once again performed admirably this past weekend in Sweetwater at the Ranger College Rodeo, finishing fifth overall. This weekend he will take his six boys and four girls to Snyder, and face the Southwest Region’s No. 1 ranked team in West Texas College.

Coach Monica Salmon and her Lady Bucks softball team are now 3-0 in district and 7-9 on the year with a 16-1 drubbing of the Kermit Yellowjackets. On the win Salmon said, “We played well yesterday against Kermit.

It was a great day for golf as 18 teams from Alpine, Marfa, Fort Davis, and Van Horn teed off at the 2022 Alpine High School Project Graduation fundraiser golf tournament held at the Alpine Country Club on March 26.

On March 25 the Alpine Fightin’ Bucks baseball team escaped the Kermit Yellowjackets home crowd with a narrow 5-3 win. Teagan Emerson was the starting pitcher, and Cody Morris came in to relieve him.

I watched my first television program, “The Lone Ranger,” in the early 1950s. I instantly became a fan of that hero, and shortly after that I added to my list of heroes Roy Rogers, Dale Evans, Gene Autry, and other characters with white horses and white hats.

Firefighters do more than fight blazes or step up in emergency situations. Firefighters have the privilege of serving by giving back to the community they call home. They are dedicated members whom residents can count on.
