Rodeo team still in second place in region

Coach CJ Aragon’s men and women rodeo teams once again performed admirably this past weekend in Sweetwater at the Ranger College Rodeo, finishing fifth overall. This weekend he will take his six boys and four girls to Snyder, and face the Southwest Region’s No. 1 ranked team in West Texas College. The Sully boys’ squad is still in second place with 2,800 points, 1,300 ahead of Tarleton State who is in third. West Texas College has 3,780 points to lead the region, with Weatherford and Clarendon Colleges filling out the top five.

It was a great day for golf as 18 teams from Alpine, Marfa, Fort Davis, and Van Horn teed off at the 2022 Alpine High School Project Graduation fundraiser golf tournament held at the Alpine Country Club on March 26. It was a huge success, and netted bragging rights to the winners in the Championship Flight and President’s Flight.

I watched my first television program, “The Lone Ranger,” in the early 1950s. I instantly became a fan of that hero, and shortly after that I added to my list of heroes Roy Rogers, Dale Evans, Gene Autry, and other characters with white horses and white hats.

Commissioners approve voting location change

Brewster County Commissioners Court held its regularly scheduled meeting on March 22, and approved a new voting location for the November general elections. Plenty of discussion ensued among County Elections Administrator Lora Nussbaum, County Democratic Chair Mary Bell Lockhart, and two longtime Alpine residents.
