The 2022 National Finals Rodeo is currently being held in Las Vegas, Nevada. Last night saw contestants reach the midway point in the 10-day rodeo, with the completion of round five.
Both the Sul Ross men’s and women’s basketball teams had players named as players of the week in the American Southwest Conference during the week of Nov. 21- Nov.
Fresh out of football and back on the basketball court, the Alpine Bucks didn’t miss a beat in their season basketball opener Monday in Midland, downing Midland Leadership Charter Academy, 81-26. The Bucks jumped off to a 19-6 advantage in the first quarter and led 3915 at halftime. Alpine outscored the Eagles 4211 in the second half.
The Alpine Fightin’ Buck football team ended their season before the Thanksgiving holiday break, when the Bucks traveled to Post on Nov. 18 to play a skilled Spearman team for the Area championship.
The Lady Buck basketball teams traveled to Van Horn Monday to take on the Lady Eagles. Both the JV and Varsity teams came home with a win. The JV came out strong and quick, using transition offense to quickly jump ahead in the first quarter. They never looked back taking a demanding lead throughout the game, defeating the Lady Eagles 38-12.
The Sul Ross men’s basketball team held its own during an exhibition game against the Division I UTEP Miners on Tuesday night at the Don Haskins Center. The Lobos fell 99-59 before a crowd of 3,701 fans.
Barry Derickson has officially become the head football coach at Sul Ross State after doubling the win total from last season. “First of all, I’m very excited and blessed to be the head guy here.
