Four players scored in double-figures as the Sul Ross State University men’s basketball team (0-3 Lone Star Conference, 2-6) lost 91-80 to UT Dallas (1-2 LSC, 1-9), Thursday night at the Pete P. Gallego Center.

Illness left the Alpine varsity Bucks with a skeleton crew of players to take on 3A, 4A, and 5A challengers on the hardwood in Monahans last week. The loss to Greenwood had the Bucks settling into tournament play at 6-4 before they faced Odessa High, Presidio, Del Rio, and El Paso Austin.

Sul Ross State University Women’s Basketball (1–7, LSC 0–3) continued to take positive steps Thursday evening, competing with toughness and discipline in a 43-55 Lone Star Conference matchup against the University of Texas at Dallas (4–5, LSC 1–2) at the Pete P. Gallego Center. The Lobos defended with purpose, played physical on the glass, and stayed connected throughout the contest, showing continued growth in their execution and effort as they build consistency and identity through conference play.

The Alpine High School Lady Bucks varsity basketball team (5-10) traveled to Andrews High School for a non-district matchup against the Lady Mustangs, facing a tough opponent on the road. From the opening tip, Andrews jumped out to an early lead, but Alpine showed spunk and a never- say-quit determination, contesting every shot and making the Andrews Lady Mustangs work for each basket.

The Alpine High School boys’ varsity basketball team hit the road Tuesday night, December 16, for the always-anticipated Highway 67 showdown against Fort Stockton High School. After a difficult first half, the Fightin’ Bucks regrouped and mounted a stronger second-half effort, but ultimately came up short in a 54-43 loss to the 4A Region I District 3 Panthers.
