Lobos keep Falcons grounded

Three players were in double-figures as the Sul Ross State University men’s basketball team (22) beat UT Permian Basin (2-2) 67-61, Saturday afternoon at the Pete P. Gallego Center. This was the first win over the Falcons since November 23, 2010.

Lady Bucks find rhythm, build momentum through Wilson-Stice Invitational

In what has quickly become a stretch defined by growth rather than just wins and losses, the Alpine High School girls varsity basketball team is beginning to discover its identity, building confidence through competition, tightening its chemistry, and showing flashes of the up-tempo, hardnosed style that could define its 2025-26 season as the Lady Bucks turned an early setback into momentum both at home and on the tournament stage.

Strikers close out undefeated season with thrilling run to the finals

The Strikers capped off an unforgettable 2025 BBYS U8 soccer season, finishing league play undefeated and battling their way through a high-energy tournament weekend. After a season built on teamwork, grit, and steady improvement, the Strikers entered the postseason tournament. Their final match delivered all the excitement fans could hope for — a hard-fought duel that remained tied at full time, pushed into overtime, and ultimately came down to a nail-biting penalty shootout. When the dust settled, the Strikers proudly earned 2nd Place Championship honors, a testament to their determination and heart. Congratulations to the entire team on an incredible run and a season to remember! A special thank-you goes out to BBYSA, the dedicated coaches, referees, parents, siblings, family, and all the friends and supporters who cheered these young athletes on from the sidelines. The Strikers were led by Head Coach Rafael De Leon, Assistant Coach Josh Rousselow, a crew of supportive parents, Team Manager Denise De Leon, and were proudly sponsored by FS Services.

Lady Lobos start strong

Sul Ross State University Women’s Basketball (1–0) opened the 2025–26 season with a strong 65–58 win over Northern New Mexico College Saturday at the Pete P. Gallego Center.

Bucks blast MTLCA in opener

The Alpine High School boys varsity basketball team opened its 2025-26 campaign with a statement win on Monday, November 17, dismantling Midland Texas Leadership Charter Academy 28-86 in a nondistrict matchup on their home floor. From the opening tip, the Fightin’ Bucks looked every bit like a team ready to run, gun, and defend at full throttle.

Bucks’ football season ends in Bi-District, build hope for next year

The Alpine Fightin’ Bucks varsity football team closed out their 2025-2026 season on Friday, November 14, with a tough 75–20 loss to the Coahoma Bulldogs in the Bi-District round of the playoffs. While the final margin was lopsided—one that gave the teams Fridaynight, televised news coverage— the season offered important lessons and flashes of potential for this underdog squad.
