A pep rally held at Alpine High School on Sept. 24 surely helped the Fightin’ Bucks take their first win of the season against the Kermit Yellowjackets.

If it were up to Ylan Hernandez and Shaun Foster the Alpine Fightin’ Bucks would have beaten Sonora last Friday night in Bronco Stadium. But with homecoming and the honoring of the 2000 undefeated 15-0 State Champions, the Broncos were not to be denied in front of a raucous hometown crowd, 42-19.
The Alpine Cross Country traveled to Presidio on Sept. 18 for the Bo Coffman Invitational. In what is historically the hottest and arguably the toughest racing course of the season, the varsity boys placed second, beating Fort Stockton, Kermit, Van Horn, Marfa, and Fort Davis.
Sul Ross Football held host Austin College to a touchdown and three field goals, but couldn’t overcome a 10-0 first quarter deficit in a 16-7 road loss in Sherman. “The players played hard and with effort,” said head coach John Pearce.
Marathon High School senior Jackson Barlow represented the Mustangs well at a recent cross country meet held in Marfa. Barlow placed first to garner top honors.
Team Bebe’s Kids won the Alpine High School Class of 2022 Project Graduation softball tournament held Sept. 11 at Valentin Lujan field in Alpine. Funds were also raised through a concession stand, all for the benefit of Project Graduation. Courtesy photo
