Battle on the border

Body
The old saying about being out-gunned was exactly what happened to the young Lady Buck volleyball team this past weekend down on the border. The Presidio Blue Devils have always been a sticking point for the Bucks, but this year was an exception. Presidio has seven seniors on its roster, and Alpine has three and one that starts in the rotation. It was easy for all spectators to see a huge size difference on the court when you have 18 year-old girls competing with 15-16 year olds. It makes a big difference. Not to make excuses for the loss that occurred on Oct. 9, but sometimes a team is just outweighed, and that is exactly what is happening this year.

Fog rolls in for Mountain Ramble

Body
The fog rolled in just as 150 seventh and eighth grade cross country runners stepped up to the line. The early morning twomile middle school girls' race marked the opening of this year's Big Bend Mountain Ramble hosted by Alpine Cross Country. With near perfect, somewhat dramatic weather and countless spectators, this year's event proved to be a competitive day of racing with 28 teams and around 500 runners descending upon Kokernot Park on Oct. 2 to compete in one of the last regular season meets before the championship season begins.

Lady Bucks dominate Yellow Jackets

Body
Saturday saw a packed house at Alpine High School as the Lady Bucks took on the Kermit Yellow Jackets for a District game that would turn out in Alpine’s favor. The Lady Bucks have been shuffled to many different courts this year due to construction at the high school, but this Saturday Alpine was able to go head-to-head with an always fierce rival from Kermit.

Bucks fall again

Body
Alpine at 1-4 proved no match for 4-1 El Paso Riverside, 70-6, in front of a raucous homecoming crowd on Oct. 1. Much to the chagrin of the Alpine parents and Fighting Buck faithful, the Riverside Rangers are not 5A, but District 1-4A Division I.
