Lady Bucks suffer heartbreak in Monahans

It was not supposed to end this way, especially on Valentine’s Day, falling to the Denver City Fillies, 51-44. The District 4-3A undefeated district champions, 8-0, and first in District. The Lady Bucks had not lost a game since the Lubbock Caprock tournament in late December. It was the first time since 2004 that the girls had gone undefeated in district.

Bucks avenge only loss to Tornillo

On Feb. 1 at the Alpine High School gymnasium, Alpine blasted the Tornillo Coyotes 63-45 to avenge their only district loss of the season. The win moves them to 16-6 overall, and tied with these same Coyotes for first in district at 4-1. Alpine lost 70-61 on Jan. 14 in Tornillo.

Awards continue to pour in for football team

Coach John Fellows just received an award he cannot quit bragging and smiling about. That’s because it’s for his football team and all his players. They were awarded The Texas High School Coaches Association Texas state finalist for academic excellence. The Fightin’ Buck football team, along with 13 other high school teams, was named a finalist in 3A.

Bucks toss aside Presidio at Gallego

The Alpine Fightin’ Buck basketball team came back from nine points down to the Presidio Blue Devils to smash them in the second half at the Gallego center, 56- 42. Aiden Morrissey had 15 points to lead all scorers, Esteban Macias had 10 points, and Jayden and Jace Canaba had 13 and 9 points respectively.

Boys basketball wins two in a row

Coach Hugh Morrissey and his Alpine Fightin’ Bucks have won two crucial district basketball games in a row. The Bucks moved to 14-6 and 2-1 in district after beating both Kermit and Anthony away from home on their courts. The Bucks won 68-49 against the Kermit Yellow Jackets on Jan. 21, and 51-39 on Jan. 25 against the Anthony Wildcats.
