Raymond Paul Janiczek
Raymond (Ray) Paul Janiczek passed away peacefully on January 22, 2026, at his home in Alpine, at the age of 81. Born in February 1944 in Gary, Indiana, he grew up among a large extended Polish family. He excelled in drafting and physics. During his spare time, he learned auto mechanics from his uncle. After graduating from the Indiana Institute of Technology, he was recruited by Dow Chemical Texas Division, spending his career in the Brazosport area. Retirement offered him the chance to relocate. While traveling to Alpine, he fell in love with the mountains, people, and dark skies, choosing this as his forever home. A beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, he added value to others.
Ray devoted his professional life to the field of mechanical engineering, where he honed his exceptional skills at Dow for many years. His career took him to Europe, Chile, Japan, and China, but his fondest memories were made during his time in Italy and Spain, embracing the culture and forming lasting connections. Even in retirement, Ray remained a valuable asset to Dow, serving as an analyst tackling challenging problems with his trademark acumen.
Ray immersed himself in books on any subject that captured his interestoften reading technical manuals like others read fiction- and remained a lifelong learner. Passionate about rebuilding engines and auto restoration, drag racing filled his weekends with adrenaline and excitement. Then the Corvette “bug” got him, becoming the proud owner of both early and late models. With his John Deere tractor, he found joy working on his land. Feeling most at home using tools and tinkering in his barn, with the backdrop of our beautiful mountains, he was in his happy place. Known for his remarkable ability to fix anything, Ray tackled each obstacle with a creative flair and ingenuity.
With a quick wit and knack for humor, his laughter echoed in the hearts of those who spent time with him. He especially delighted in surprising others with heartfelt gifts. In addition to his mechanical prowess, Ray was an excellent cook, sharing his love for Polish cuisine with his family. Barbecue and homemade breads were some of his signature offerings.
In 2020, Ray suffered a stroke that caused significant impairments, changing the course of his life. Because of his faith, he accepted these challenges with courage, dignity, and an open heart, leaving behind a legacy that will be cherished by those who knew him.
Ray shared 32 wonderful, memorable, loving years with his wife, Teresa Peck, by his side. He is survived by their loving son, Craig (Amber) Janiczek, and treasured grandchildren Kai and Skylar. Also leaving behind his sister, Judy Crawford, and countless friends who will fondly remember him.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at Alpine Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Alpine from 1 to 3 p.m. Teresa would love to invite all who knew Ray to come out and share stories and spend time remembering Ray.
As we bid farewell to this remarkable man, we honor the memories he has left behind and the love he instilled in our hearts. Ray, we miss you.
