Bucks warm up for bi-district with win at Sanderson

Body
With second place in District 4-3A secured and the bi-district battle with Dimmitt set, the Alpine boys basketball team hit the road to Sanderson last Friday for a warmup game before this past Tuesday’s bi-district match in Denver City. The Bucks did a few things differently and played what coach Aaron Hardwick said was one of his team’s best defensive games in a 76-44 win over the Class 1A Eagles.

Plants from arid areas still need sufficient water

Body
Dear Neil: That was great information on how to start Texas mountain laurels from seeds you gave us here recently. No wonder I never could get them to germinate. Two more questions. How much water will they need when they are young? And will they grow well in soil that is basically topsoil underlaid with clay instead of the rocky soil where you normally see them growing natively?

Fatality in Big Bend National Park

Body
On Saturday, Feb. 18 at approximately 1:15 PM, Big Bend National Park’s Communications Center received a call requesting emergency assistance on the Pinnacles Trail. A 56-year-old male was experiencing chest pains. Friends hiking with the visitor immediately began CPR and continued with the help of bystanders and park volunteers until rangers arrived on scene with an AED. Unfortunately, all attempts to revive the visitor were unsuccessful.
