Recently, Alpine ISD Superintendent Dr. Michelle Rinehart traveled to Austin to speak with legislators about the many successes as well as challenges and needs affecting the district. Rinehart’s goal is to help legislators understand what our rural public schools face in terms of funding or lack thereof.

Bucks baseball sees 2-2 split to start season

The Alpine Fightin’ Buck varsity baseball team started their 2023 season behind the curve. With a loss to Pecos in their first game last Monday of 2-10, the Bucks entered the Comanche Classic to face off against the Regan County Owls last Thursday.

Alpine rips Wink, heads to Brownfield this weekend

The Alpine Lady Bucks have had hot bats of late. Heading into Tuesday’s home match with Midland TLCA, the Lady Bucks had outscored Van Horn and Wink, 33-1, smashing 25 hits along the way, including homeruns by Kody Hawkins at Van Horn and Paula Vargas in Friday’s home-opener against Wink.

Fort Davis grass fire burns about 2,800 acres

On Sunday afternoon, the Fort Davis Volunteer Fire Department was called out to a grass fire on Hwy 118 north near the old Solar Park. At around 4 p.m. it was estimated to have burned about 70 acres and was moving swiftly towards the north-east. At the time, the subdivision of Limpia Crossing was not threatened, but FDVFD officials said it was a possibility if the winds shifted.
Due to high winds resulting in a downed powerline out by the old Solar Plant located off north Hwy 118 in Jeff Davis County, a grass fire started this past Sunday afternoon and as of press time had consumed 2800 acres. Courtesy photo
