City Council discusses finances at length

The City of Alpine held its’ regularly scheduled city council meeting last Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. Although the agenda held several action items, most of the meeting focused on discussion of the city finances in terms of infrastructure, including the wastewater treatment plant and other components of the local water system and costs of paving versus seal coating the streets.

Commissioners approve election agreement, ponder Senate bill

The regular meeting of the Brewster County Commissioners Court was held at 9:30 a.m. this past Tuesday. Of note was the agreement with the county elections office and the Alpine ISD along with the City of Alpine for rental of election equipment, as well as a Senate bill that was drafted by Senator Cesar Blanco of El Paso concerning HOT funds.

New athletic director, football coach named

At a specially called meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 28, the Alpine ISD Board of Trustees, in closed session, approved the hiring of Coach Andy Smith to serve as the next Athletic Director and Head Football Coach of the Alpine Fightin’ Bucks.

Lady Bucks go 2-2 at Coahoma Tournament

With just one scrimmage under their belts, the Alpine Lady Bucks hit the road to Coahoma last Thursday and Saturday, playing four games in two days and coming away with a split – winning two and taking a loss in two games.

Alpine Bucks track and field teams to compete Saturday

The Alpine High School Fightin’ Buck track and field team will officially begin their season this coming Saturday in Fort Stockton at the Comanche Relays. Back in January, the track team competed in their first ever indoor track event in Lubbock at Texas Tech, but their official season does not begin until this weekend.
