Eulalia Muñiz, a cherished matriarch, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and unforgettable friend, passed away peacefully on June 17 in Alpine at the age of 102. Born on November 2, 1922, in Terlingua, Eulalia’s life was a tapestry woven with love, laughter, and unwavering strength.

The Alpine Cowboys continued their climb in the standings with another solid week of baseball, improving their record to 10-7 after taking three of their five completed games and showcasing both offensive power and promising pitching performances.

Roberto Lujan passed away on June 13 from prostate cancer. Roberto was born on April 24, 1956, to Eugenio A. Lujan and Sabina A. Sandate. Roberto’s siblings are Eugenio Lujan, Ernesto Lujan, Rebecca Valenzuela, Lupe Mancinez, and Juanita Carrillo. Roberto was preceded in death by their youngest family member, Ruben Lujan.

The Alpine Centennial School, which, from 1936 to 1972, educated predominantly Hispanic students, will hold its fifth all-class reunion July 3-5. This educational hub of the Hispanic community has held reunions in 1996, 2000, 2004, and 2008. It will once again gather its former students together this year.

The Alpine Emergency Services Board held its regular meeting on Thursday. All board members were present, along with three guests: board bookkeeper Carole Causey, Brewster County Judge Greg Henington, and Mac Tucker.

Enrique “Henry” Chavez peacefully entered the gates of heaven on June 5 at the age of 81 in Midland. He was born July 19, 1943, in Alpine.

Donna Rae Massey passed away at 89 years of age on Monday, June 9. We all have a journey, and, in the end, opportunities in our life to choose a focus.
