Enrique “Henry” Chavez peacefully entered the gates of heaven on June 5 at the age of 81 in Midland. He was born July 19, 1943, in Alpine.

Enrique is preceded in death by his parents, Jose and Juliana Bermudez Chavez, and sister Rebecca Chavez Portillo. He is survived by his wife, Nati Chavez; they shared 43 years of marriage. Enrique’s legacy lives on through his children, Claudine (Tommy) Bishop, Krisella Chavez, Jose Enrique (Diana) Chavez, Martin Andrew (JoAnn) Chavez, and Abelardo (Yolanda) Chavez.

Enrique’s grandchildren are Nathan Jayde, Denise (Steve), Aryanna, Conrad (Emily), Jeanette (Kristopher), Michael (Patricia), Kyle (Heather), Kory (Temeria), Kameron (Melissa), Dominique (Daisy), Jerrica, Abelardo Jr. (Angelica), and Austin. He was also Grandpa to his twelve great-grandchildren and Tio or Uncle to many nieces and nephews.

Enrique is also survived by his brothers Merced, Arturo, and Gilbert Chavez.

Enrique, also known as ‘Henry,’ was a hard worker who dedicated many years to Alpine, his beloved community. He worked as a mechanic at Western Auto, Santa Fe Railroad, Foxworth and Galbraith, and Central Freight Lines, and retired from Highland Concrete. Henry had a passion for keeping an immaculate yard, entertaining family and friends for 4th of July celebrations, cooking menudo, and baking his well-known homemade pecan pies. Most of all, he was known as a die-hard Dallas Cowboys fan!

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude for the loving care he received at the McCamey Convalescent Center and Midland Medical Lodge.

Services will be held at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church on Saturday, June 28. Visitation will be at 9 a.m., followed by the recitation of the Most Holy Rosary at 9:30 a.m. The funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m., followed by interment at Holy Angels Cemetery.
