High School students capable of earning career changing certificates

Students at Alpine High School have the ability to begin working on their future career goals by earning various professional certificates. Whether their interest is computer based, healthcare based, or engineering or fabrication based, these opportunities are available beginning at the freshman level.

City council discusses HOT funds and begins budget workshop

The City of Alpine held its regularly scheduled city council meeting July 18, as well as its second budget workshop. Mayor Catherine Eaves thanked the council for the streamlining of the recent meetings, sharing a quote passed along from the city secretary, Geoffrey Calderon, “Even though long meetings are often accepted as the norm, we need to acknowledge that drawn-out meetings are bad public policy.” This streamlining effort is due in part to the current budget season occurring for council, with workshops beginning at 3 p.m., the same day as the council meeting.

Mr. Anthony “Tony” Martin Werckle, 80, passed away on July 1, in Tyler. Mr. Werckle was born on May 15, 1943, to the late George and Ellen Werckle in San Antonio. Mr. Werckle attended Jefferson High School in San Antonio and was a graduate of Texas A&M University where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in 1967. He later went on to receive his master’s degree in public financial management at The American University in 1977. He worked in banking and

Ingredients: ½ cup salted butter (1 stick) 1 ½ cups granulated sugar 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder ½ cup milk 1 teaspoon vanilla 2/3 cup of creamy peanut butter or if crunchy peanut butter is preferred, add another ¼ cup.

There are days that I crave something sweet, but just have no desire to fire up the oven to make a dessert. And store-bought cookies are just not as good as those made at home. Besides, what Texan wants to fire up the oven in this heat wave we’re having? Not this one!
