The Sul Ross Lady Lobo volleyball team took on Le Tourneau University Saturday afternoon at the Pete P. Gallego Center. Although it took a fourth set to conquer the Yellowjackets, the Lobos were able to pull it off.

According to a recent press release, the Deadhorse Mountains, including the surrounding areas of Dagger Flat Road and Old Ore Road will be closed beginning October 3.

Dallas may be a long 500-mile drive from Alpine, but every year Visit Big Bend makes that trip and takes a little piece of Far West Texas to the State Fair.

The Alpine Fightin’ Bucks faced Odessa Compass Academy on Friday, September 22 in Alpine’s first district game this season, winning 28-21. Played at Ratliff stadium, this game showcased the potential for game turnover in each quarter.

Recently a list of Texas high school volleyball statistical leaders was published, written by national sportswriter Eric Frantz, and several of the Lady Bucks made the top 50. Paula Vargas was recently named as an assist stat leader, ranked number 35 out of 200 players in Texas in number of assists.

Sammy Lee Fitzgerald, a beloved husband, brother, and son, passed away on September 19, in Lubbock. Born on November 5, 1956, in El Paso, Sammy lived a fulfilling life marked by his dedication to his work as an electrician and his genuine joy for the simple pleasures’ life had to offer.

Lifelong resident of Alpine, Elizabeth McLean, age 96, passed away on September 24. She was born to the late Kurt and Anna Lange in Alpine, on November 17, 1926. Elizabeth attended Alpine Schools and Graduated in 1943.
