Ranch Rodeo set for August 11-12

The 2020 Working Ranch Cowboy Association of the Year, Big Bend Ranch Rodeo kicks off its 2023 event on Friday night, August 11 at 7 p.m. at the Sul Ross SALE Arena. The adult performances this year will feature 16 adult teams, made up of approximately 95-100 contestants.

Kokernot Field All-Star Game a Success

For the first time in Pecos League history, the annual Mountain Division All-Star Game was held at Kokernot Field in Alpine Sunday, July 16. A crowd of 389 filled out the dark green, wooden seats as the top players from six of the eight Mountain Division franchises took the field. The day began with a home run derby featuring seven contestants. James Prockish and Kam Holland represented Alpine, but Tucson Saguaros outfielder Madison Santos won the contest by crushing six long balls.

New Lady Buck volleyball coach has high hopes for the team on and off the court

Adrian Smith has taken the torch of Lady Buck head volleyball coach this season, and she believes the future is bright for the program because of the team’s passion and strong team mindset. “My expectations for the program don’t only have to do with success on the court, it’s also about success off the court as well,” Smith said in an interview with the Avalanche last Thursday.

Cowboys win July 4 series vs. Invaders, sweep Fuego

After an up-and-down month of June that saw the Alpine Cowboys hover around the .500 mark, the first week-and-a-half of July has showcased a Cowboys team that seems to have found its groove. Alpine recorded six wins over an eight-game homestand, which featured a two-game sweep of the Austin Weirdos and series victories against the Trinidad Triggers and Roswell Invaders.

Viva Big Bend is back for its 12th year

Summer in Big Bend means good food and live music. Locals and tourists alike are revving up for one of the liveliest events hosted in the area, as Viva Big Bend gets ready for its 12th year of celebration.
