Alpine teachers engage in ‘espionage’

Two of Alpine High School’s teachers are becoming “spies.” Mrs. Cory Cason and Mrs. Renee Parson applied for a Fund for Teachers Fellows, which is a grant that aids teachers in transforming their instruction through professional growth and development to better enrich their students through success and support.

SB 29 passes the senate

On Tuesday, March 31, 2020, then elected Brewster County Judge Eleazar Cano shut down the county. With orders to shelterin- place for all residents of Brewster County, the closing of all non-essential businesses, prohibition of all mass gatherings, as well as non-essential travel and a curfew of 10 p.m.

Christopher Paul Chavez, 33, of Early, Texas went to his heavenly home on April 8, surrounded by those who loved and cared for him. Chris was born in Alpine on October 13, 1989. He was known for his humor, sarcasm, and great passion for everything he loved. He was a lover of all sports at all levels, but was fiercely loyal to the Texas Longhorns, Texas Rangers, Dallas Mavericks, Dallas Cowboys, and any team his father was coaching. John William “Jay” Ward

“Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid …” John 14:1 John “Jay” William Ward, age 90, of Fort Davis, passed away on Sunday April 2 in Alpine. John was born on 21 May 1932 to John Irby and Cora Ellie (Cole) Ward in Gainesville. He was the fifth child–the first son–of eight children. Jay moved with his parents and siblings to Denver City in 1946 where he attended school and earned his high school diploma– Class of 1952–from Denver City High School via correspondence after being drafted into the US Army for service during the Korean Conflict.

Dear Neil: I am moving to a new home and need advice on trees. I love oaks and their durability, but acorns and pollen are daunting to keep up with. Are there any trees that are low maintenance and of equal durability for a person 74 years of age? Are there any oaks that have fewer of the acorns and flowers?

Bucks fall to Presidio, rally against Crane

TheAlpine Bucks varsity sluggers met up with the Presidio Blue Devils on the diamond last Tuesday. Both teams had fireball pitching, and Devon Rojo would get things started early in the first inning for the Bucks when he doubled on an 0-1 count to score a run.
