Acosta inducted to Phi Kappa Phi

Angelo State University’s chapter of the Phi Kappa Phi national honor society recently inducted its spring 2022 class of 57 new student members, including Kassandra Acosta of Alpine, during a special virtual initiation ceremony on Facebook.

Creativity and dark skies awareness was celebrated by Alpine High School art students during the first annual Dark Skies Coloring Contest during the Earth Day festivities on April 22 at Kokernot Park. The students from Rachel Maxwell’s art class showed off their creativity. Student Lauren Penders, contest creator Judy Stokes, and AHS student Angelique Fox pause for a photo during the event. Brewster County Sheriff Ronny Dodson judged the coloring book contest, with Fox coming out on top, Penders in third place winner, and Ysauel Munoz (not pictured) as runner up.

Keeping Alpine clean

The City of Alpine and Keep Alpine Beautiful hosted multiple beautification events in April. On April 10 Cub Scouts Pack 141 removed 269 pounds of trash and 60 pounds of recyclables from Alpine Creek and from the golf course bridge through Medina Park.

Sophomore pitcher Hannah Juett has been the Buck starting pitcher all year, pictured here in Alpine as she helps the Lady Bucks fight against Presidio. The Bucks move into playoffs this evening in Big Spring as they take on Littlefield. The Lady bucks are 6-2 in district.

What a day the Lady Bucks had in Denver City last week as they took the title at the Area track meet with a total score of 169 points. The boys took home fourth place with 71 points.

Being anxious for nothing - is it possible?

Have you ever experienced a West Texas storm roll in? One moment the sky can seem bright and clear, and the next dark and gloomy. And the way you felt - did that change too? One minute we can be up and hopeful, and the next down and doubtful when circumstances change. For many of us, stress and doubt roll in and hover like a storm cloud of uncertainty. Its winds and hail threaten to damage our physical, financial, and social well-being. Perhaps anxiety has also crept in with the storm.
