It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Vincent J. Lavallee Jr., on April 17. Vince was born the second child of four siblings to Vincent J. Lavallee Sr. and Merele Lavallee of Holyoke, Massachusetts. He was raised in Hempstead, NY, where he attended and graduated school.

Judith Ann Parsons, 80, of Alpine, passed away April 3, in Amarillo. Born in Canyon, Judy was a beloved sister, aunt, and teacher.

Sarah Whitson Bourbon, 76, of Terlingua passed away on March 30, at her home in Terlingua. Sarah was born September 12, 1946, to Caroline and John Whitson in Denton.

In loving memory of Brian Kenneth Kokernot, born on April 27, 1953, in Utica, NY, died on Jan. 4, in Austin. He was a long-time resident of Alpine. “Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid …” John 14:1 John “Jay” William Ward, age 90, of Fort Davis, passed away on Sunday April 2 in Alpine. John was born on 21 May 1932 to John Irby and Cora Ellie (Cole) Ward in Gainesville. He was the fifth child–the first son–of eight children. Jay moved with his parents and siblings to Denver City in 1946 where he attended school and earned his high school diploma– Class of 1952–from Denver City High School via correspondence after being drafted into the US Army for service during the Korean Conflict.

Christopher Paul Chavez, 33, of Early, Texas went to his heavenly home on April 8, surrounded by those who loved and cared for him. Chris was born in Alpine on October 13, 1989. He was known for his humor, sarcasm, and great passion for everything he loved. He was a lover of all sports at all levels, but was fiercely loyal to the Texas Longhorns, Texas Rangers, Dallas Mavericks, Dallas Cowboys, and any team his father was coaching. Funeral service for Raymond R. Cobos, 60, of Lamesa, was held Friday, March 31, at 12 p.m. at Branon Funeral Home Chapel. Arrangements are under the direction of Branon Funeral Home in Lamesa. A burial followed at Dawson County Cemetery. Viewing was Wednesday, March 29, and Thursday, March 30, at Branon Funeral Home Chapel.

Catalina Urquietta Bermudez, age 92 of Alpine, passed away at Focused Care in Fort Stockton on March 30. Catalina was born on May 1, 1930, to Juan and Mauricia Urquietta in Terlingua.

Richard Bruhn Keith, 66, of Alpine passed away at his home surrounded by loved ones on March 25. Rick was born in Pasadena on July 3, 1956, to Sarah Charter Bruhn and Stan Bruhn and was raised by Sarah and Duane Phillips. Rick served in the Army in the late 70’s and was stationed in Germany. After graduating with a Masters in German Studies from the University of Texas, Rick moved to Alpine where he worked for the Center for Big Bend Studies at Sul Ross State University.
