July 19, 2001 Alpine Pilot Club president for 2000-2001 Webbie Carvajal presented checks for $100 Monday to representatives of Alpine Community Center, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Alpine Fire Department, Girls State, Brewster County Child Welfare Services, Family Crisis Center, Sunshine House, Main Street program, Alpine Public Library, Aliviane, ASAP, and Frontier Casa. July 12, 2001 Julie Covington and Shawn O’Neil participated in the Brewster County 4-H District horse show held June 20 in Fort Stockton.

Dear Neil: What causes pecans to fall early (August and September) and be eaten up with a black fungus? We used to get 75 pounds of pecans from each of our two trees, but starting two years ago the fungus has ruined them.

Ingredients: 1 bunch organic grapes 2 cups white bread flour 2 cups water Directions: Have ready a glass bowl, wooden spoon, a towel, and a strainer. Crush the grapes slightly, and measure out about two cups into a glass bowl.

Ingredients: 1/3 cup sugar (optional) 1/2 cup olive oil 1 tbsp. salt 1 cup starter 1-1/2 cup warm water 6 cups bread flour Directions: In a large bowl, make stiff batter of all ingredients.

The Sons of the American Legion Post 79 held a spaghetti supper fundraiser on July 23 at the American Legion hall in Alpine. Proceeds benefitted Sons of the American Legion activities to serve the community. Climbing Christmas Mountain

A drive to the top of the Christmas Mountains range, located in south Brewster County, is not for the faint of heart. It’s the only unpaved, four-wheel drive road open to the public in Brewster County with major elevation gains of almost 2,000 feet.
