Alpine ISD Board of Trustees held its regularly scheduled meeting on Sept. 15, and the new high school construction progress brought positive feedback from trustees. Board members absent were Dist. 2, Joe Portillo, and Dist. 5, Justin Cross.

Sul Ross State University is nationally known for its rodeo program, and in 1949 was the birthplace of the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association. The Sul Ross rodeo team has since earned nine national championships - seven men’s and two women’s - and the rodeo program is currently experiencing a resurgence, led by nationally acclaimed coach C.J. Aragon.

It was a delightful evening for a street side serenade as Presidio’s Mariachi Santa Cruz, with musicians Michael Hernandez, Molly Rodriguez, Lucy Ferguson, and John Ferguson, delighted an enthusiastic crowd on Sept. 18 at the Harvest Moon Weekend of art and music in Alpine. The annual fall event celebrates all things artistic as it brings together locals and tourists alike touring local murals and galleries while enjoying a relaxing evening with family and friends. There was standing room only on Sept. 9 as business owners and residents filed into the Terlingua Fire and Emergency Management Services center for a public hearing on mass gathering permits.

Carolyn Barrientes, Alpine: I love to bake, so when the weather starts to change, I Iove to bake things that remind me of the fall weather changing. Sometimes we don’t get the seasons here, but we start to feel the weather changing-have the smells of the pumpkins, spices, all those thing that people normally bake before Thanksgiving.
