$15.5 million secured for international bridge

On Oct. 18 the Texas Legislature voted for final passage of Senate Bill 8, which appropriates funds from the American Rescue Plan Act to be used across Texas. A critical piece of this legislation includes $15.5 million dollars to fund a permanent U.S. Customs and Border Protection Inspection Station in Presidio to serve the South Orient rail line, which crosses the international border in Presidio and continues to Dallas.

Superintendent advisory committee meets at high school

The Alpine High School Student Advisory Committee met on Oct. 19. Committee members are Kendal Hardaway, Sierra Rickman, Kaitlyn Wiggins, Jaime Rodriguez, Lourdes Acosta, Shaun Foster, Allison Sanchez, and Jace Canaba. Honoring loved ones while sprucing up

It is the beginning of cool fall weather in the Big Bend, and with it comes the start of unique family traditions designed to honor departed loved ones. For the Holy Angels Cemetery Association in Alpine, it all starts with beautifying and sprucing up the place of rest.

I am compelled to!

As I pick up large June bugs, stranded on their backs in the McCoy’s parking lot, it seems almost inconsequential or a waste of time to do so. I’m not sure what they did to put themselves in such a position, but I do know they will surely die like that. By design they seem to be destined for such an end. It doesn’t make sense. After so much evolutionary time, one would think that such fatal flaws would have been weeded out by natural selection. Yet, here they are.
