What is egg pie? Well, it’s quiche of course, and is one of the most versatile dishes out there. It can be eaten at any time, and tailored to specific meals. Breakfast? There are numerous recipes for breakfast quiche. Lunch or dinner? The same can be said, because the sky is the limit. Quiche is only limited to one’s imagination, creativity, and personal tastes.

More illegals apprehended

On Oct. 10, a Brewster County deputy apprehended a total of 12 illegal aliens from Guatemala in two separate incidents. Dear Neil: Can trumpet vine and pink salvia be kept in pots over the winter? We wanted to plant the trumpet vine in our yard, but we heard it was invasive. How can we winterize them? They can be grown in pots, but you lose about 20 degrees of winter hardiness when you have plants growing in pots above ground.

School resource officer arrested

Brewster County deputy and Alpine Elementary School resource officer Phillip Workman was arrested last week in Pecos for solicitation of prostitution in a sting operation conducted by the Texas Department of Public Safety and the Pecos Police Department. He has since bonded out.

After a weekend of cruising fun, Octane-Fest car show winners were announced at a banquet at The Stables Performance Cars in Alpine. Brandi and Karl Kozlovsky won best of show, and the top 12 winners were Jason Chopelas, David Gunnoe, David Ramos, Justin Yeager, Aaron Eaves, Dorothy Reynolds, Steve Boyher, Tim Allums, Sam Di Lanni, and Todd Willey. Retreat brings vets to Big Bend

A four-day retreat for veterans will take place on private property in the Big Bend this weekend, with a focus on healing from service-related traumas like PTSD. Post traumatic stress disorder is a mental health issue that can develop after experiencing or witnessing a lifethreatening event, like combat and its aftermath, a natural disaster, a car accident, or sexual assault.
