Lady Bucks players named Texas stat leaders

Recently a list of Texas high school volleyball statistical leaders was published, written by national sportswriter Eric Frantz, and several of the Lady Bucks made the top 50. Paula Vargas was recently named as an assist stat leader, ranked number 35 out of 200 players in Texas in number of assists. Mia Morris was ranked number 17 on this list in the dig category and Adayna Garcia was listed as number 26 out of 200 for player hitting percentage.

Sul Ross Lady Lobos calling it a comeback

The Sul Ross Lady Lobo volleyball team took on Le Tourneau University Saturday afternoon at the Pete P. Gallego Center. Although it took a fourth set to conquer the Yellowjackets, the Lobos were able to pull it off.

Fightin’ Bucks win first district game

The Alpine Fightin’ Bucks faced Odessa Compass Academy on Friday, September 22 in Alpine’s first district game this season, winning 28-21. Played at Ratliff stadium, this game showcased the potential for game turnover in each quarter.

Runnin’ Bucks compete in Lubbock

Both the varsity girls’ and boys’ teams competed in Lubbock this past weekend previewing the Region 1 Championship course. This was the first time many of the athletes had raced on the Lubbock course. The varsity girls were missing Hope Dominguez and Mia Morris but Colette Fowlkes, Emy Hernandez, Molly Garrett, Tannin Ritchie and Megan Struthers ran well and placed 10th out of 21 teams. The varsity boys team consisting of Hat Cason, John Mendoza, Aaron Miller, Everett Edwards, and Martin Sablatura were also missing two runners but placed 12th out of 22. “We are looking forward to having our entire team compete this weekend including our JV and middle school athletes in front of our home crowd.”

Runnin’ Bucks take 2nd and 3rd in Presidio

According to Alpine Cross Country Coach Cory Cason, the Presidio course is the most difficult course they will run all year. “It is a great warmup as the varsity travels to the Lubbock Invitational this weekend to preview the regional championship course which is also pretty tough.”

Alpine Bucks fall to non-district Broncos

The Alpine Fightin’ Bucks football was beaten 45-18 in Friday’s non-district away challenge against the Sonora Broncos. The Bucks now sport a 1-3 record, where they’ll take the field against Compass Academy for a 2-3A Region I District 1 challenge on Friday, September 22. Alpine will meet a team coming off a 27-24 nondistrict win over Water Valley, whose record now stands at 2-2.

Lady Bucks beat Buena Vista, fall to Monahans

“Our program has improved in all aspects of the game,” said Adrian Smith, head volleyball coach for the Alpine Lady Bucks, after the team’s games against the Buena Vista Longhorns on Tuesday and the Monahans Lobos on Saturday. The Alpine team won the nondistrict game against the Longhorns 3-0 and had played the team previously during the Best of the West tournament, which Alpine also prevailed with a 2-0 winning score.
