If you thought football season was still months away, think again. The Alpine Bucks 7-on-7 team just gave fans a sneak peek at the returning firepower, blazing speed, and game-changing talent they’re bringing into the fall.

While most people were sleeping in on Saturday, nearly 70 fit and formidable runners showed up at Kokernot Field for the 10th annual Alpine Cowboys Home Run 5K and 10K to kick off the 2025 Pecos League baseball season.

Hey, Alpine, are you ready for some football?! You don’t have to wait until fall … or the end of the summer. Tomorrow, Alpine’s 7-on-7 squad heads to Wink for a high-stakes day of fast-paced football in the Dave Campbell’s Texas 7-on-7 State Qualifying Tournament. And according to longtime program leader Felipe Fierro, the Bucks are ready to show what they’re made of.

The Sul Ross summer girls’ basketball day camp for ages 7-14 is set for June 23-26 at the Pete P. Gallego Center.

The Alpine Cowboys are gearing up to defend their Pecos League crown after a record-breaking 2024 campaign, and they’ll do it under a familiar face in a new role. Lance Myers, a former Cowboys standout and assistant coach, takes the reins as head manager following Sean Persky’s five-season run that netted two league titles and a 45-4 mark last year, good for the best winning percentage in Pecos League history.

Alpine ISD has released its summer training and camp schedule for studentathletes, and one thing is clear: Athletic Director Jerry Dominguez is determined to have the Bucks battle-ready for the 20252026 season. Whether on the court, the field, or in the weight room, the focus this summer is on building strong, conditioned athletes who are ready to compete.

Though the 2025 season ended in dramatic fashion for the Alpine Fightin’ Bucks baseball team, the work put in over the long stretch of district play did not go unnoticed. Twelve players were recognized on this year’s All-District team, alongside two student athletic trainers— an impressive haul that underscores both the talent and academic commitment of the program.
