A big thank you!
We would like to thank the community and visitors from all over the country for joining us for the 50th Fourth of July Celebration hosted by the Kiwanis Club of Alpine.
We had a perfect evening after the rain. Thanks to all of our parade participants. Fort Davis State Bank won first; Purple Storm All-Stars, second; and Marley Roberts third. The spectators were the real winners!
Due to the rain, the car show was small but everyone loved it. The Winners in the Classic category were Bill Wilmarth first and Dave Durant second, and in the Modern category were Dave Durant first and Dillon Orr second. Thanks to our parade and car show judges.
Russ Money played all night, and the community band played for an hour providing patriotic music for the crowd. The Mystic Gitanas provided a great show as well.
The hot dog eating contest was a huge success, with Jimmy Morris winning the contest and entertaining the crowd. Thanks to our sponsor Alpine Radio.
Fireworks were set off by Ronnie Davis, with the help of Bryan Gilmore, Kent Dunegan, Omar Madrid, and Kate Rubio.
We would like to thank our sponsors, the City of Alpine, American Legion, Fort Davis State Bank, A+ Real Estate Co, BBT, Tallent Roofing, Big Bend Concrete, West Texas National Bank, TransPecos Banks, Outwest Feed and Supply, Big Bend Regional Medical Center, Big Canyon Television, Magoo’s Restaurant, Rontac, Farmer’s Insurance, and Second Street Porter’s Thriftway.
We also appreciate the help provided by the Alpine Police Department, Brewster County Sheriff’s Office, Alpine VFD, Alpine EMS, Sul Ross State University, and Morrison True Value, and Eddy and the city crew for all of their hard work.
We need more booths next year, so make your plans now. See you next year!
