Juanita Garcia Muniz, loving mom, and homemaker, passed away peacefully at the age of 82 at Val Verde Nursing Home in Del Rio on Dec. 27. She battled Alzheimer’s for many years. She was born on January 5, 1940, in Marathon to Florentino and Luciana Garcia. She attended grade school in Marathon and then later moved to Alpine with her family where she attended Centennial School and excelled as a basketball player during her time in school, competing at state. She later married Cruz Muniz, Sr., and had four children Annabel, Martha, Cruz, Jr., and Michael.

Viewing will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 4,

at 5 p.m. with praying of the Most Holy Rosary following at Alpine Memorial Funeral Home Memorial Chapel at 6:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, Jan. 5, at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church with Father Pablo Matta.

She is preceded in death by her parents Florentino, Sr. and Luciana, her husband Cruz, her children Martha, Cruz Jr., Michael Muniz and her siblings Ricarda, Irene, Maria, Pablo, and Florentino Jr.

Survivors include her daughter; Annabel Wiesman and her husband Darrel Wiesman of Midland, her siblings Oscar, Delma, Linda, Robert, Carmen, Sylvia and Miguel.

She will be dearly missed by her eight grandchildren in Texas and Colorado and her four great-grandchildren from Andrews, Iraan, and San Angelo.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like to ask that donations be made to Alzheimer’s Association.
