The U.S. Border Patrol’s Big Bend Sector held a historic graduation ceremony on Friday, with its first-ever Horse Patrol Unit graduation ceremony at Sul Ross. Since its beginnings, the USBP has used horses in its operations. Although a shift to vehicles occurred over the years, the Horse Patrol Unit was revived in the 1970s to assist agents in navigating rugged terrain.

The Alpine City Council held its regular meeting on Tuesday, with all council members present, except for Ward 1 Councilor Richard Portillo, who was absent due to family business. The meeting was presided over by Alpine Mayor Catherine Eaves.
